UNESCO: Chiprovtsi carpet is World Heritage

UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, which met in Paris on its ninth session today unanimously entered World representative list of elements of intangible cultural heritage of Bulgaria proposed nomination “The tradition of manufacturing rugs.”
The Ministry of Culture presented the Bulgarian candidacy production of rugs to UNESCO at the end of March last year.
Chiprovtsi carpet weaving is the third Bulgarian element inscribed on the world list.
After Bistritsa Grannies (2006/2008) and the fire dancing (2009), now place found famous Bulgarian carpet center. Even today Chiprovtzi weavers weave on a vertical loom, which is considered as an ancient form of weaving technique.
