Khunjerab Pass on the China-Pakistan border is a strategic point on the Karakoram Highway, which links northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur autonoumous region with Pakistan’s Gilgit-Baltistan region.

On the pass, the Khunjerab border inspection station handles meetings between Chinese and Pakistan sides and supervises general affairs on the border. The site on freezing Pamir Plateau, where the lowest temperature reaches minus 40 degrees Celsius, is located at an altitude of over 4,500 meters.
