Chinese Inflation Holds at 4-Year Low on Soft Commodity Prices

  • by

Chinese inflation pressures remained subdued last month, which economists put down to weaker costs pressures from falling commodity prices rather than soft demand.

The annual change in China’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) was steady at a four-year low of 1.6% in October, data on Monday revealed, in line with market forecasts.

The report also showed producer-price deflation accelerating to 2.2% in October from 1.8% in September, marking the 32nd-consecutive month that the change in the Producer Price Index (PPI) has been negative, and the steepest decline since March. Analysts expected to see the PPI slide 2%
