Chinese bubble tea brand Auntea Jenny launched what it describes as its ready-to-drink tea dietary fiber nutrition improvement plan in Shanghai on Wednesday.

The initiative aims to bring China’s new tea beverage industry into line with a set of quantifiable and widely adoptable nutritional standards.

According to the Dietary Reference Intakes for China 2023, over 95 percent of China’s population does not consume enough dietary fiber. Urban residents aged 18 to 35 have an average daily intake of only 11.8 grams, far below the national recommended daily intake of 25 to 30 grams.

Wang Yingyao, deputy secretary-general of the Chinese Nutrition Society, noted that dietary fiber, recognized by the World Health Organization as the “seventh nutrient,” serves as a critical link between natural diets and public health.

“Globally, insufficient dietary fiber intake is a common issue, and poor diet is closely linked to chronic conditions like cardiovascular diseases. The health benefits of dietary fiber from natural food sources are well-documented,” Wang said.

Having focused on the healthy tea beverage sector for 13 years, Auntea Jenny has pinpointed the nutritional gap in dietary fiber intake as a key area for innovation.
