Shanghai airport launches services to enhance shopping experience

In a bid to further improve the city’s shopping experience during the Shanghai Summer international consumption season, the Shanghai Pudong International Airport launched a slew of services, including fast tax refund, diversified payment options, and currency exchange, according to the Shanghai Airport (Group) Co Ltd.

Two self-service tax refund machines have been put into operation in the public area of the airport’s terminal 2, allowing expatriates to quickly go through the refund process if their single purchase is within 10,000 yuan ($1,476).

In line with the city’s efforts to boost its appeal as the first stop for inbound tourism in China, the Shanghai Pudong International Airport has optimized services, including multiple payment options and currency exchange, providing foreign travelers with a seamless, convenient, and friendly shopping experience.

Currently, passengers at Shanghai Pudong International Airport can pay with international bank cards, Alipay, or WeChat Pay. Additionally, Alipay’s tap service, a QR code-based contactless payment solution, is available at nearly 240 businesses, including conventional retail outlets, duty-free stores, and restaurants.

The two banks and 15 currency exchange counters, with two of them to be operational soon, enable passengers to exchange more than 40 currencies, including US dollar, euro, British pound, and Japanese yen.
