China exports oil rigs to Middle East

  • by

Two customized offshore platforms developed by Qingdao Haixi Heavy-Duty Machinery Co. are about to be shipped to the United Arab Emirates.

Nearly 90 percent of the equipment for the two rigs were locally sourced.

Measuring 85 meters in length and 40 meters in width and standing 90 meters above the surface of the water, the oil rigs weigh about 5000 tons and have a maximum operating water depth of 60 meters.

Equipped with push and bow thrusters, the platforms are capable of sufficient movement to ensure stability in stormy seas.

They also function as workover stations, with a 190-ton main crane and a 20-ton assisting crane each.

An oil rig is a transferable workplace at sea that can house hundreds of employees. On the two rigs, an advanced sewage disposal system and a water maker have been installed. Living quarters contain computers, TVs and areas for entertainment and exercise, according to a company researcher.

Should any emergencies arise, staff could escape quickly by helicopter via the helideck, it was added.
Used for offshore oilfield services, offshore construction, installation of offshore wind power generators, bridge erection and irrigation projects, oil rigs have a huge international market.
