The unemployment rate in Bulgaria fell to 4.2 percent in 2019, reaching a record low level, the Labor Force Survey of the National Statistical Institute (NSI) showed on Monday.

This is the lowest rate registered since 2003 when the survey has been conducted with this methodology.

There were 142,800 people registered as unemployed in Bulgaria, of whom 82,300 were men and 60,500 women, the NSI said.

The number of long-term unemployed people (those unemployed for longer than a year) was 81,000, the NSI added.

Bulgaria’s second and third lowest unemployment rates were recorded in 2018 and 2008 — 5.2 percent and 5.6 percent respectively.
