China records 5% GDP growth in Q1 2026


China’s gross domestic product expanded by 5 percent to reach 33.42 trillion yuan in the first quarter of 2026, the National Bureau of Statistics said on Thursday.

China’s value-added industrial output, an important economic indicator, rose 6.1 percent year-on-year in the first quarter, the bureau said.

China’s retail sales increased 2.4 percent year-on-year in the first quarter, the NBS added.
