IMCAP: Bringing CAP Closer Through Citizen Engagement

IMCAP: Co-funding ideas that connect citizens with agriculture

Do you want to make a real difference in how citizens perceive farming and sustainability?

Information Measures relating to the Common Agricultural Policy (IMCAP) offers co-funding to support communication projects that engage citizens and increase understanding of agriculture and the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) across the European Union.

What is IMCAP?

IMCAP is a European Commission initiative that supports projects connecting citizens with the CAP and helping them better understand the role of agriculture, rural areas and food production in everyday life.

Through EU co-funding, IMCAP enables organisations to develop activities such as:

  • media and awareness-raising campaigns,
  • farm visits and public events,
  • educational content and storytelling initiatives,
  • digital tools, videos, podcasts and mobile applications,
  • workshops, webinars, blogs and vlogs.

Every project contributes to two key objectives:

  • increasing the visibility of EU support for agriculture,
  • informing farmers, rural communities and citizens about the CAP.

In short, IMCAP helps organisations communicate, inform and engage.

Success story: Com-Pacto in Portugal

The COM-PACTO project illustrates how IMCAP support can help strengthen dialogue between
citizens and the agricultural sector.

Through creative campaigns, visual content and storytelling, the project:

  • reached younger generations through school seminars, educational games, treasure hunts and biodiversity events –  (find out more:  Activities at schools).
  • participated in local fairs and used social media content to connect producers and citizens (find out more: Feiras de produtos locais – YouTube).
  • organised university initiatives that encouraged discussion and understanding of the CAP.
  • developed communication materials aimed at public engagement.
  • supported farmers and agricultural stakeholders through workshops, webinars and television programmes showcasing sustainable practices and innovative solutions.
  • produced and broadcast television episodes on organic farming in Portugal.

The project helped bridge knowledge gaps, encourage collaboration and promote active citizen participation.

The result was greater visibility and stronger engagement.
